J&K LG Manoj Sinha Condoles Loss of Lives in Ramban, Reasi Cloudbursts; Rescue Ops Continue

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday expressed deep anguish over the deaths caused by cloudbursts and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Ramban and Reasi districts.

The LG assured that all possible assistance is being extended to the affected families.

In a post on X, the Office of the Lt. Governor wrote: “Anguished by the cloudburst & rain-triggered landslides in Reasi & Ramban. Condolences to the bereaved families. Spoke to senior officials and took stock of the situation. Rescue and relief operations are underway. All possible assistance is being provided to the affected.”

At least four people were killed and one went missing after a cloudburst hit the Rajgarh area of Ramban on Saturday, officials confirmed. Ramban SSP Arun Gupta said flash floods damaged a house and a school, adding that search and rescue teams led by senior officials are continuing operations in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to landslides and falling rocks. Authorities have issued a travel advisory, restricting vehicle movement on both the highway and the Mughal Road until weather conditions improve.

The Reasi District Administration confirmed that rescue teams are working in Badr and Mahore to provide relief.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir until September 2. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for Ramban, Rajouri, Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Poonch, Kathua, and other districts, warning of very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
